when it finally arrived
it was like a freight train
or a stampede of elephants
it was of no import
whether he resisted,
his protestations
were swept aside
like an unwanted crumb.
it knocked him
to the ground
and he was left there
no more fight left in him
and no more desire
to ever get up
again
reason had abandoned ship
and logic could make no sense of it
no argument touched this
sorry state
and so the whole world
simply waited,
unable to offer anything
but eternal union
with emptiness.
he slipped into a dark sleep
like death
he awoke empty.
