There is a beauty in everything
Even in the broken
Though I am not talking about
The superficial quality of beauty
I am speaking here
Of the soul
Of the essence of us
The beauty of being touched deeply
Moved, opened up to compassion
Or love’s deepest communion
Those who live in rage and fear
Those who make greed and hate their gods
Cannot touch this beauty
They know nothing of it
Their lives are too cold
And defended
And they miss the whole point
Of why we are here
There is a beauty in everything
Even in the broken
And even in our brokenness
Don’t be afraid of it
But welcome it in
Like an old and dear friend
Who needs tenderness and love.
