Fear, The Ghost With No Substance

Fear is a ghost that haunts me
Whenever I feel low
A demon that seeks to scare me
Into inaction
Or fearful action
It cries ‘Do this! Don’t do this!’
Fear is a stupefying energy
That grows quickly
Into the apparition of a monster
It thinks it’s helping
And it does have a place
In the human experience
But it’s not the lord and master
Of life
It’s there to inform
Not control
To advise
Not terrify
I remember fear
I used to know it well,
Intimately.
Now it comes as an occasional visitor
I try to make it welcome
But sometimes I have to just
Shoo it away..
