And in the midst of this confusion
He lifted his head
And found some dignity
A kind of primal dignity
Not given by culture or status
Not the phony dignity
Bought by money or heritage
But the simple dignity
Of the right to be here
The natural elegance of existence
No one knows why we are born
Some say karma, some say chance
Why, in the race for the egg,
We made it while others didn’t
But the fact that we are here
Is enough for us to
Lift our heads
With humble dignity
With gracious pride
The truth is
Everyone is equal
And no one is excluded from this equality
Don’t ever forget that.
