Life itself is your
One true lover
Such an intimacy
It has with you
It knows you so well
It knows how to trigger you
It implores you to surrender
But you resist your lover
You try and control it
You say, ‘No! You should be like this,
You should do it this way.’
But still your lover
Confounds you
And beseeches you
To love it anyway
Life is your lover
But you find it so hard
To accept this truth
When life doesn’t look
Like you want it to look
I say
Fall in love with life
Even as it hurts like hell
Even as it causes such grief and sorrow
Even as it wrenches us apart
Fall in love anyway
The world, your soul
And your aching heart
Will be better off
Than all this resentment
And resistance you carry.
