Our innocence is never lost
But always hidden
We each experience the fall
As though we are destined
To know that loss
That heartbreak
The shame and the guilt
The blame and the rage
We carry such burdens
That weigh heavily on our simple joy
We are all adam and eve
Playing out some vast human struggle
To reconcile the innocence of our true nature
With the burden and flaws of the human experience
When, through grace, we discover
Our innocence is still there
And is only covered over with survival strategies
It brings such relief
It returns us to the wholeness
That is our essential truth.
