Grace Misses Us

It is the mystery that informs us
Yet we turn away again and again
In our arrogance and control

The unknown surrounds us
And is the very core of our existence
Yet we scramble and clutch at the known
Terrified of the void

Our lives are borrowed
Our breath sacred
Grace itself has bestowed upon us this miracle
Yet we turn away
Distracted by phenomena
Lost in our petty games
Forgetting to say thank you

But everything borrowed
Must be returned
And breath will run its course
The game will be over

And grace will call us home
Having missed us so badly.
