Declare Your Truth

If you believe in love
Be it, be that loving one
Shower the world with love
If compassion is your thing
Live it, not when it’s convenient, but always
If kindness is your rock,
Practice enduring kindness
Even in the storm
What’s to lose?
Go beyond yourself
Stretch your limits

The more we embrace that which we value
The more of it enters our own hearts
And the world

The time of holding back is over
Now is demanding our fullness
And our willingness to stand for goodness
If that is what is true.

More Free Than Family

You are a river
Searching for the vast ocean
You imagine you came from your mother
But really you came through her
And you came from
The same vast ocean
You search for

Don’t allow family to completely own your life
Our parents are the conduit
As we are the conduit for those
We give passage to
There is great honor and joy in this
And we have reason to be grateful

But we are more vast than family
And more free than family allows

Remember this.

Our Silent Prayer

Today, let us not talk about our troubles
Or the troubles of the world
We can just sit here quietly together
Gazing at the stars as they glisten
The heavens as they turn
There is no need to even speak
Words so often miss the mark
Our silence will say all we need
We can let everything be just the way it is
Our silent communion will be our prayer.

When Realization Dawns

We imagine we are all alone
Marooned in a hostile reality
When the realization dawns
That this is an erroneous thought
Of an unexamined mind
The ripples of laughter, tears and relief
That resound throughout the universe
Create a wave that others feel in their bones
I call that love.

Surrender the Resister

All this fighting with our experience
Struggling, wrestling, trying to dominate it
Deciding it’s wrong and it shouldn’t be like this
Is exhausting
And futile

By the time experience is happening
It’s too late to argue with it
Because it’s happening

Better to take the time
To find out who or what is resisting
And what it might be like
To surrender the resister

The resister goes from thing to thing
Deciding what’s right or wrong
What’s allowed and not allowed
The resister is the arbiter of our reality
Making decisions about the world
About our experience
And what should be or shouldn’t be

Oh! the resister
The one who runs the show
But who are they?

Without investigation
They are the hidden tyrant of our lives
Developed over countless years
Through hardship, difficulty,
And aggrandizement
The resister is the one we must meet
In the open field of love

They will fight, scream, justify
Freak you out and threaten
The end of your world

Still you must surrender the resister
It will be your liberation

The Precious Jewel Called Life

You don’t have to earn the right to be here
Or justify your existence
Or prove your worthiness
The exquisite fact that existence
Has brought you here as you
Is enough
For you to celebrate
And stand in wonder

We take it all for granted
Until the last moment
Or until love is snatched from us
And then we see the miracle

Make that last moment every moment
Don’t forget the simple miracle that is life.
