When the Divine Appears

Some of this poetry is ecstatic
Some of it ordinary
Steeped in a kind of sadness
Kindness appears often
It can be gentle or ferocious
A storm or a calm sunset
I beseech
I tease
I challenge
And I love

I know what I am doing
And I don’t know what I’m doing
There is no plan or grand design
No marketing or sales pitch

I seek authenticity always
And cannot tolerate lies or deception

But there is something deeper
At the heart of all this writing
And sometimes it comes through
If I keep opening the door
If I stay willing to just lay it all bare
Sometimes, when the wave is high
The DIVINE appears
And smiles
And lays beauty upon us all
Upon you and me
And that is our healing

I live for that, and it cannot be forced, only invited,
And then we must carry on anyway regardless
The DIVINE has its own time, its own way
All we can do is court it.

Even the Stars Bowed Down

Overwhelmed by all this human insanity
Did he sit in such a silence
That the world stopped all movement

And in that bitter sweet moment
The sky opened its heart
The moon shed its tears
And the sun offered its light
He lifted his weary head
And beheld a beauty
Of such heavenly wonder
That even the stars bowed down
And the universe stopped breathing

From that divine pause
Did time itself come
Dripping like nectar
Precious moment upon precious moment
Creating all this we see and know

Life is more vast than we can imagine
We live on the surface of something
So huge it would overwhelm us if we could see it
Our five senses allow us to navigate life here
But do not mistake perception for reality
They are not the same thing

In a certain enlightened experience once
I saw something with my inner eye
I saw time dripping into reality
Beyond mind, beyond our perceptive senses
I saw something so extraordinary it brought me to my knees
And I understood that we can never understand
Something changed in me forever that day
And I began to serve the divine that animates all things.

Remember Your Vastness

Oh! mystic and eternal wanderer
Come here to this plane
Who knows why
Full of hope and anticipation
Innocent and free
Your eyes and heart awake
And joyous

What happened?
Did the world grind you down
With its pressures and demands
Did it force its cynicism upon you
Coerce you into its ways
Instill its confused beliefs into you

And you forgot
All about your true self
Caught up in a net
And plucked from the vast ocean

But now is the time to remember
All it takes is one moment
A flash of inner lightning
To untether
And unhook
And remember the truth
You are this mystic wanderer
Made of stardust and cosmic debris
Your origins are timeless
And when you dissolve back into emptiness
You do not disappear
But become your vast self again.

The Juice of Life

In such great need of control
In fear of his own vulnerability
Enslaved by anger and resentment
And conditioned to mind’s righteousness
Did he squeeze all the juice out of life
Did his inner flame perish
And all beauty fade to grey
Life lost meaning
And he died while living

True life springs from surrender
From embracing our wounds
From walking through darkness
From discovering our inner nobility
From turning towards heart

The juice of life
Is in our brokenness, our kindness
Our tenderness and our beauty
Our sorrow, joy and acceptance
Turn towards it
Again and again and again.

Come To The Garden

Come with me
My downhearted one
Come into the garden
And meet your innocence
Come and see your joy intact
Your playfulness still alive
Come and smell the sweet fragrance
Of your beauty untarnished by life
Come, we will discover what is not broken,
Yes, we will encounter love,
Love at its finest, its bravest
Its most powerful
It may overwhelm you
But let this overwhelm be a way
Of remembering

And when you have seen the beauty
And tasted the nectar
And imbibed the fragrance
When you have touched the passion

You will be ready to return
But I warn you
Your heart will never close again
You will have to carry the fragrance of the garden
Until you leave this world
And everyone who meets you
Will wonder where you have been.

This is our Love

This is our love
As open as the sky
Tender as a mother with a newborn
Without judgement or projection
Defenses no longer necessary
Fully present
Rooted in goodness and care

Yet nothing hidden
No dark stone unturned
Strong and clear
No victim, no aggressor
Not wet or new age
Not trying to be conscious
But willing to meet in the fire
Everything given, nothing held back
In full knowledge of the inevitable
Parting of the ways

A beautiful dance of two silences
Swirling, gliding and playing
On a path of love, in love, to love
Only love as destination
As though the world
Was made for us alone
Yet nothing selfish here
But shared without preciousness
A kind of fate that brought this
And a grace that sustains it
And a humility that deepens it

This is our love
A love that transcends the world
Yet includes it.

Blaze Like a Warm Fire

Be no one
Fantastically
Don’t worry about fame
Or fortune
Just be yourself
Fantastically
Be ordinarily amazing
Don’t diminish yourself
Neither aggrandize yourself
But blaze like a warm fire
Drawing others toward you
For no reason
Other than love’s
Unconditional benevolence.
