Unhook Yourself From The Past

Don’t become buried under
The weight of erroneous beliefs
You must dig yourself out
Shovelful by shovelful
Until you get to the fresh air

Most of those beliefs
The ones you punish yourself with
Are inherited
They don’t belong to you
But you have made them your own

Digging yourself out
Is a kind of sifting through
What is true and what is not
What is actually yours
And what is not

Why allow beliefs
That are not even yours
To torment you?

The influence of wounded ancestry
Is enormous, almost incalculable
Enough, it is killing us

We are in an age of enlightenment
An age when we get to choose
To put down the bags of ancestral burden
Filled with shame and guilt
Filled with ‘not good enough’
Filled with war and competition

And to step into ourselves
Unburdened and unchained
Free to love unconditionally

But first we must each
Dig ourselves out
From the mountain
Of inherited and erroneous beliefs.

The Vast Depths of Love

Ours is a meeting of lovers
A service to natural beauty
Through any storms we encountered
We found ourselves in the vast ocean
This love has no edges
There is nowhere it is not
You can’t take anything from it
For it doesn’t belong to us

We have fallen into love’s unity
Surrendered all sense of separation
And arrived at joy

Friend, there is a depth to love
Most of us cannot touch it
Because of our wounds
Because of our defenses
But we know it is there
We sense it in our belly
We hear it whispering to us

Let your longing be that love
Don’t fix it on a thing or a person
But allow the longing for love
To be the love itself
And it will open a secret door
Some call grace

It is our willingness
That calls the divine
To the door.

tear off this falseness

tear off this falseness
and stand tall
in truth
be like an open window
let anyone look in

invite everyone
into your house
and make them welcome

there are no enemies
when love is your abiding state
there is only misunderstanding

don’t be so quick
to jump into
being a person
it is not as simple as that
and when you look
from a certain angle
you will see
worlds within worlds
all real
and all fictional

don’t be so quick
to judge
make love your home
and see the world dissolve.

A Kind of Hidden Beauty

There is a kind of beauty
That cannot be seen
With the ordinary eye
It is beyond the reach
Of the narcissistic ego

This beauty is the truth
Behind the show, behind the mask
It is the beauty of openness
The beauty of the tender heart
It is the beauty that is revealed
When there is no more pretending

Only the nakedness of being

It is the beauty of innocence
It cannot be faked or forced
Manipulated or manufactured

This beauty is a meeting
Between innocent seeing
And innocence revealed
It is exquisite
And, despite our cynical world,
Is still there
Waiting for us all

Most are so preoccupied
With surviving in the marketplace
They lose their beauty
And settle for the mask.

Become No Thing

You don’t have to become
Another someone
In awakening
Not trying to improve your self
Or change your self in anyway

You are trying to see the self
That already exists
Was born out of illusion
And is not as real as you think

When you really see that
Deeper and deeper
You stop the investment in self
And when you stop investing
In the false self
It starts to go bankrupt

Then you become empty of self
Just a no thing
Neutral and equanimous
More observer
Less actor
Then you can become softer
And kinder and more benevolent
To the one who moves around the world
As the doer, as the player
You get to treat yourself lightly
Because you realize
It’s all an illusion
That’s not a cold realization
But a loving, compassionate one.

Once the Fire is Alight

It’s Painful
Destructive
Confusing
Alienating
Sometimes terrifying
Confronting
Demanding

And yet it calls us

Freedom calls us
Truth calls us
Love calls us
Transformation calls us

And we would willingly
Walk through the fire
And drown in the ocean
Face the pain
The destruction, confusion and alienation
Meet the terror
Be willingly confronted
And accept the demands

Because once love’s truth has been tasted
And the fire has been lit
Nothing else will satisfy the soul
That’s the deal
Waking up from the dream is tough
Which is probably why so many
Choose to stay asleep.

Death is a Dear Friend No-One Likes

Eventually this body will fall away
Form itself will dissolve
Back to wherever it came from
Nothing left of me
But a fragrance

This I accept with grace
Because it is inevitable

It brings a preciousness to my time here
It reminds me what it important
It shows me the pointlessness
Of unnecessary worry

The inevitability of death
Brings everything into context
That’s why I hold it close to me
I don’t push it away
Death is a dear friend
No one likes
I have befriended them
And made them an ally
And now they are not as scary
And I can live fully
Here and now
Alive and available

Eventually everything will dissolve.
