A Love Beyond Valentine

Love is not a personal possession
Not something to keep for self
It’s not ownership of someone else
It is not something we can trade
It is a fragrance
So much deeper than self
It is the sweet beauty
Of openness without imagination
Tenderness without story
Love is the presence
Of just being with this as it is
It is humbling
And exhilarating
Compassionate
And without limit
Love is just what is naturally here
When everything that is not it
Is dissolved
In fact everything dissolves into it
Because love is not divisible
It is not me and you and others
It is the whole
Union.

Happy Valentine to your sacred heart ❤

Everything Resolves Into Love

My father shriveled into a coward’s life
His father carried his paranoia to the grave
His brother died of alcoholism and fear
My brother carries the darkness within him
My mother never recovered from bitterness
Her father was gassed in the first war and died early
Her mother retreated from life into illness

I nearly went the same way
The way of fear
The way of disappointment and bitterness
Of anger and resentment
Of addiction and desolation

But something happened on the way down

And my descent stopped
And became a kind of flight
Into the mystery
And the unknown

Everything unravelled
All beliefs and conditioning
Expectations and stories
And what was revealed
Was so natural and vast and pure

It was life
Without anything extra
Without the baggage and burden
It was the simple act of
Birth into form
From nothing into something
And back into nothing
I tried to find out what I was, what I am
And I discovered
I am love, freedom
Tree, animal, mineral
Bird, thought and sky
I am the space in which things happen
And the things that happen
I am the named and the nameless

Now I am recovered from the shock
I can laugh
And live easily
With gratitude and joy
My father, his father
His brother, my brother
My mother, her father and mother
All those who fell, broken and beaten
I can carry with such a deep compassion and love
They are healed and free
Free to dissolve back into
The formless realm
Of pure love
From which we all come
And all return to.

This is How We Love

We love with a wild tenderness
Beyond egoic self protection
Naked and unashamed
With a care for each other
And a love for truth
We know truth heals
And lies kill love
We love with nothing left undone
Nothing swept away
Held hostage for another day
Transparent, see through love
Blown open to joy’s fresh wind
Unafraid of sharing what is broken
Knowing that one day
Good bye will tear us apart

This is how we love
Like innocent children
And weary lovers
Grown tired of the world
Turned towards hibernation
Wrapped up in each other
Waiting for spring

This is how we love
As spring flowers
Dancing gaily in the fresh wind
Delighted just to be
Swaying this way and that
Laughing at each other
Knowing we are the same

We love beyond all this
Earthly concern
In realms unexplored
And galaxies unknown
We came to this
From the mystery
And we dance the mystery
Together and alone

But our purpose here
Is to share our love
With you.

Intimacy – The Hidden Treasure

Intimacy is what happens
When the soul is laid bare
And received
With an open heart

It has nothing to do with sex

Intimacy is where
Openness meets itself
Beyond the walls of self protection

It is the ultimate display of rebellion
In a superficial world

But it has nothing to do with sex

To be intimate with anyone or anything
You have to be willing
To reveal your innermost
To explore your depths
And to hear without judgement
To be able to sit
In the complete unknown
Even as the fire might rage

Intimacy is being comfortable
In the discomfort
Of the unknown
Because this intimacy
Is where love lives

It is the secret treasure
Only the authentic explorer
Can discover.

Ready For Love

I wasn’t ready for love
When it arrived
It shook me to the core
And in that shaking
Everything fell out

I fell so deep into love’s ocean
I drowned
But in drowning
Something new was born

The I that had struggled so hard
The one that fought the world
And battled for survival
Was no longer in control
Had become but a tiny whisper

Instead there was devotion to truth
An openness and a service to love itself
A warrior arose
Someone real
Who had no need for defenses
No need to attack
This new one wore no mask
Played no games
Yet was not weak
But strangely powerful

There is only one force
That can change this world
And that is love

But it requires a kind of death
Of the one who is defended.

Set Love Free

Love has a purpose
Unseen and mysterious
Ignored by all those
Who claim it for themselves
“It’s my love,
I love you, love me for who I am,” They cry
But love laughs

Love is not for ownership
You cannot keep love for yourself
Its purpose is to flow and spread
It is unconcerned with ideas of ownership
Or even relationship
It is as free as the wind
When you think you have it
It may well slip through your fingers like dust

Ego wants to own everything
It offers the illusion of power
In the vastness of eternity
And the mystery of existence

And so it claims love for itself

Love is the breath of God
Its purpose is to fill the lungs and heart
With divine resonance
Love is the gift we are given
From infinite intelligence
It is our communion with the divine
While we are here in form
It is our connection, our memory
Of home

Set love free from bondage friend
Let it fly and find it’s own way
Don’t trap it and lock it up
Open the doors and windows
And throw away the cage
And see what freedom arises
In your heart and soul.

Love is a Gamble

Love is a gamble
A risk
It’s an open hand
In a closed hand game
The deeper the love
The greater the gamble
What can you lose?
Everything you were
Every strategy of defense
Every wall you built
In the name of protection
The stakes are high
The pot is great
What do you win?
Freedom and joy.
