Cherish It All

The pure energy of the light
Pours into each of our hearts
Animating our every breath
Offering us life in its myriad expressions

We forget this miracle
And lose our connection to it
So beguiling is form
And so pernicious conditioning
We become transfixed
Bewitched by the shadows

When gratitude and wonder
When connection with nature
When recognition of true source
Are forgotten or ignored
We lose our way
And become almost insane

And then, through grace,
Something may happen
That causes us to stop
It may tear at our reality
And plunge us into despair or grief
We may rail against it
And think it the worst thing

But it is truly a messenger
Come here to speak to our hearts
Telling us to remember

The wise and humble see this truth
And cherish every part of life
With all its heartbreak and suffering
And with all its forgetting and remembering

Nothing is excluded from love.

It All Comes Home

When everything comes home within you
It all comes home to an open heart
Resolved into tenderness
Returned to innocence
It becomes love
And you become love
It sounds elevated and unreachable
But it’s not, it is very human
It is nature’s pure intelligence
Seeking to resolve itself
Through you, as you.

Dive Deep Inside

The deeper you dive
Into the darkness and mud
The more exquisite will be
The jewels you discover

You may have to sift
Through much sediment
And endless dirt
Seemingly without end

But, by and by,
You will stumble upon
Such wonders
And magnificent treasures
You will be in awe

We are searchers by nature
And when our searching
Is turned inwards
Something incredible happens
And the secrets of the universe
Are revealed.

The Universe Pours In

My beloved, how shall we measure love

In the same way we measure the number of stars in the night sky
Or the way we measure the grains of sand on the beach
Shall we tether it with our feeble attempts to number everything
And fit it all into a box we understand
Shall we quantify love as we do everything else
Or shall we leave it as immeasurable, unknowable, uncountable

We clutch at description as though it were a safety net
Oh!, we say, when I know how many, when I can describe it,
Then I will own it and understand it and be safe

But friend, you will kill it in your attempts
Accept it, you know nothing
You are adrift in the unknown ocean
As we all are

Don’t worry about counting
Don’t worry about the false safety you seek
Just be in the vastness of it all
Dancing, laughing, crying, grieving and loving

When you open up in this way
The whole universe pours into you
And celebrates.

Reclaim Inner Authority

the power of presence
the discernment of mind
the feeling in the gut
the knowing of the heart
natural intelligence arising

all so easily given away
to imagined authority ‘out there’

now it is time
when the world is in disarray
to retrieve ourselves
and reclaim what was given away
find the seat of our power
and live from it.

Stand As Wholeness

Do not let the appearance
Of division in the world
Become your division
This is the time
For great resolve
To stand still in the face
Of the most tenacious illusions

And to decide, even as you fail,
To stay as wholeness
Despite the pull of the current
Despite the screams of the mob

For that wholeness
Is your holiness
And holiness has the power
To heal the illusion of division.

In These Delicate Times, Find Stillness

Friend, in these delicate times
Where the future seems so uncertain
And division itself
Appears to have taken over the host
Where answers appear and dissolve in the blink of an eye
Where the desperate and disenfranchised
Clutch at the only recourse they have
And when the sickness of money, power and corruption
Has been revealed as the true virus
I can only say this

Don’t jump into the fear
Don’t jump into the future
Don’t feed the hungry ghost of alienated mind
Don’t fan the flames of conflict
Don’t give allegiance to imagination

But stay here, even for a few minutes
In the quiet
Switch off whatever noise there is
And become the stillness itself
Allow the incessant movement to come to rest
And sense the nourishment that lies within

There is an unlimited energy source inside everything.

It’s OK To Feel

It’s ok to feel low
It’s ok to feel demoralized
It’s ok to feel angry
It’s ok to feel grief
It’s ok to feel fear
It’s ok to feel anxious
It’s ok to feel depressed
It’s ok to feel frustrated
It’s ok to feel bereft
It’s ok to not feel anything
It’s ok to not know
It’s ok to feel confused
It’s just ok

Don’t censor yourself
And draw erroneous lines
That dismiss some feelings
And choose others
Allow everything to flow
Just don’t attach
Over importance to it
And soon the drama of what is felt
Will lose its intensity
And equanimity will arise.

The Gamble of Love

We risk it all every day
We are hardwired to it
And there is nothing we can do
Only the hardest of hearts
Can keep it out
And they suffer terribly

We gamble it all
Because we must
Because we are here
Because we are human

The risk is having our hearts broken
The gamble is loving without condition

There is no choice but to love
And the true human being
Is forged by a broken heart
For this is where we discover our humanity
And we see that humanity in others

Life is fragile and precious
How we forget this until we suddenly remember

I say remember how sacred everything is
And hold that sacredness close
Without fear or control
But with great tenderness.

Moment of Grace

When life breaks you
When it finally brings you to your knees
Which it will do, unless your heart is made of stone,
But when that time comes
Please know you are in a moment of grace
When all the defenses previously employed have collapsed
And the water of the divine is flooding the land

This moment is when the illusion of separation
Between you and existence, you and god, dissolves
And all that remains is the eternal this-ness of life
If you are on your knees
Don’t get up, but live from that place
And your humility and truth will touch everyone
It will pour from you as it poured into you
This is beauty.
