Find Stillness, Wisdom Follows

There is a river of intelligence
That runs through us
A silent stream of goodness and wisdom
That may guide our hand and mind
A gentle nudge or a gut feeling
Or an inner voice that whispers in our ear
This is our true navigation

It is beyond reason
Beyond all information
And beyond mind
It can only be heard in peaceful abiding

The grace of the dawn as it silently arrives
Invites even the most timid bird to sing its courting song

Find stillness and inner wisdom will follow.

The Light Within

To discover the blazing light within
Is to discover the surrendered and innocent state
That is prior to any conditioning

To claim this and court it consciously
Is our inalienable right
As sovereign beings on this plane of existence

There is nothing wrong with anyone
Except thinking makes it so
But all this thinking is only the surface chatter
And deep below, way down,
Sometimes imperceptibly elusive
Is the blazing light
Of our essence

Throw off the shackles once and for all
And know the light that lights you
It is always there, but you have been wandering
Thinking you are lost, searching high and low,
For something that has never left you.

The Beauty Always Here

The more tender and open we become
The more profound is the beauty
That reveals itself to us
The beauty is always here
It is us who are not available, for we are not here

Sometimes we may stumble upon this beauty
By grace, accident or great shock
Some have seen it in the space between life and death
Yet always these moments are fleeting
And leave us with longing and desire
To become established in that beauty, that love

And there the journey home really begins
The unravelling of what was once thought true
The meeting of ones darkness and what was denied
The falling, the grasping, the letting go
As the unknown looms large with great portent

And we may even become distracted for some time
By the imagination, as it dreams of what that beauty looks like
The mind is tenacious and hijacks everything
Including the truth, and it will tell us we know what to look for
And this detour may prevail for years

But by and by everything that is not the true path
Becomes a dead end

And we are left naked and vulnerable
And in that nakedness is our innocence
And in that innocence is the beauty
We so desperately sought
We must return to the garden naked and empty.

Allow Your Heart To Open

Just for the next few hours
Don’t talk about how worried you are
Or how bad things might be
Don’t even think about the future
What might or might not happen

Instead, just for a while,
Consider how deeply you can go
How far down inside you can fall
Contemplate on how open you can be
How vast your heart can become

There are treasures here and now
Even amidst the difficulty
But to discover these riches
We have to turn away from the noise
Turn off the endless fear parade
Whether in our own mind
Or in the world we experience

Don’t worry, it will all be there
If you decide to return

But for now, allow your heart
To be the openness it longs for
Now is the time to pour yourself
Into that inner chamber

There has never been a better time to love
Let nothing hold you back.

Reclaim Your True Self

How much of yourself
Have you given away so far
How much has been stolen
With or without your permission
How much authority
Has leaked away over the years
How much innocence
And natural gut wisdom
Has been compromised

Some folks leak their whole lives
Never able to repair the cracks
Not willing to revisit pain and anger
So there they stay, trapped,
Depressed, resentful, sad

But there is a way to restore ourselves
Though the path may be arduous
It is interspersed with great epiphany
Though it may be painful
Revisiting old wounds
It is joyous to discover oneself again
It is like waking up from a slumber

Of course there is the sorrow
That comes with seeing all the wounded places
But better the sorrow that comes with joy
Than the sorrow that comes without

Reclaim yourself
Reclaim the inner you
Reclaim innocence and joy
Reclaim true authority
And give no more away
Either to your imagination
Or to other people
This is the calling
It’s not spiritual
It’s human.

Speaking Truth From Love

Awakening is not a badge
A pinnacle
An achievement
We have it all wrong
We take success consciousness
And try and apply it to our awakening
It’s not that at all

It’s a softening of all hardness
An opening of what was closed
It has no achievement in it
It is tender, even vulnerable
But there is no victim

It’s the wide open space of softness
We just don’t have experience of it
So it’s hard to grasp it
We are conditioned to achievement,
To success or failure
To penetration
To attack or defend
To victim and aggressor
We are even trained to expect hostility
All this talk of softening, of opening,
It creates chaos in the mind
Openness! No way, I hear people say

Yes I say, radical openness
The end of defend and attack mentality
There is incredible strength in openness
But the defended and righteous self
Cannot comprehend it
This strength is of the heart wide open
Speaking truth from love

When you have touched this place
And experienced its power
It will change you forever

And you might fall into a deeper beauty
Into a deep tenderness of love
And that will bring you to your true power

And if we could all embrace
That powerful truthful openness
We could never harm each other
And everything would change.

A Simple Invitation to Innocence

Mine is a simple invitation
Nothing complex or elaborate
Nothing demanding or costly
Nothing that involves mind or intellect
It needs no theory or even practice

All it needs is willingness and daring

This simple invitation
Is to remember the innocence
You arrived with
And to ask whether that innocence
Is dead or buried

If you believe it is dead
Let us see if that is true or just a belief

If it is buried
Let us unearth it
And reveal it once again
And hear its tender voice
Hidden for years under the weight of the world
Waiting for you

This innocence I speak of
Is not some glib idea or new age fantasy
It is the key to a door that leads to freedom
To reconnect with innocence
Is to make sense of this mysterious journey
In which we get lost and wounded
After arriving in existence with such promise
And excitement

To remember where our innocence
Was lost and buried
To feel that fully
And to make sense of it
May bring us to the gates of wisdom
And wisdom is the gift we really need
To accept the difficult path of life.

A Kind of Hidden Beauty

There is a kind of beauty
That cannot be seen
With the ordinary eye
It is beyond the reach
Of the narcissistic ego

This beauty is the truth
Behind the show, behind the mask
It is the beauty of openness
The beauty of the tender heart
It is the beauty that is revealed
When there is no more pretending

Only the nakedness of being

It is the beauty of innocence
It cannot be faked or forced
Manipulated or manufactured

This beauty is a meeting
Between innocent seeing
And innocence revealed
It is exquisite
And, despite our cynical world,
Is still there
Waiting for us all

Most are so preoccupied
With surviving in the marketplace
They lose their beauty
And settle for the mask.

Reclaimed Innocence

When I sit with you
And you show me your self
You reveal the pain and darkness
And all the times your innocence
Was closed down in fear

I see you
I see inside you
I see that which is not broken
I know you want to fix yourself
Because it hurts
But there is nothing to fix
Because you are not broken
Just wounded

I see your vulnerability
And sadness
Your anger and doubt
But there! In all that
I see your beauty
Still there, hiding, waiting

I see your innocence
Not gone, just waiting
Silently in the shadows
For the moment it can return
Surely it will return upon death
But there is a way
To allow innocence back, now

Innocence is the heart
It is like the sun
It can’t break
It can be hidden by dark clouds
That last a lifetime

Open all your doors
The ones you have kept closed
For protection all these years
You no longer need them
You are stronger than you know
And your strength
Is your openness
Your tenderness
And your reclaimed innocence.

Let Life Pierce Your Defenses

Pierce this heart to the core
I no longer care for civility
Or behaving myself
Let what is deep inside
Flow out into the world
And flood the barrenness

What is everyone so afraid of
Love is not to be feared
It’s lack of love
That should be feared

Pierce this heart to the core
And see the sorrow
And the grief
See the joy and the beauty
Flow out like a never ending river
Be done with all this pretense
Only the wetness of love matters

Let life go all the way in
No more holding it all back
Keeping it all together
Playing the safe game
Let it in
Allow love to flow
In and out
It’s what you are for
It’s who you are
Beyond the surface dance

And now is the time
Not soon
Not when you are ready
When things are a little better
And you are more prepared
But now, and now, and now.
