Each Day a Precious Jewel

Each day we face the world anew
Each day there is something familiar
Yet also some new opportunity
Some new insight and awareness
We have our challenges
Our successes, our loves
Our failures and our tragedies

Each day we have our morning
Filled with hopeful freshness and expectation
We meet our afternoon and evening
For some weariness arrives
And for some the acceptance
Of the movement of the day’s events
And our darkness inevitably comes
As the sun disappears once again

Each night we die into emptiness
Everything vanishing into the void
In truth we have no idea, no guarantee
That we will awaken the following day
Yet we do, until we don’t

I have learned that each day is a precious jewel
Not to be grasped at and squeezed
Not to be feared or forced
But to be cherished and loved
To savor this existence without attachment
To see the great picture
Of arrival, experience and departure
The great wheel that turns effortlessly
This, to me, is love.

The Vast Depths of Love

Ours is a meeting of lovers
A service to natural beauty
Through any storms we encountered
We found ourselves in the vast ocean
This love has no edges
There is nowhere it is not
You can’t take anything from it
For it doesn’t belong to us

We have fallen into love’s unity
Surrendered all sense of separation
And arrived at joy

Friend, there is a depth to love
Most of us cannot touch it
Because of our wounds
Because of our defenses
But we know it is there
We sense it in our belly
We hear it whispering to us

Let your longing be that love
Don’t fix it on a thing or a person
But allow the longing for love
To be the love itself
And it will open a secret door
Some call grace

It is our willingness
That calls the divine
To the door.

tear off this falseness

tear off this falseness
and stand tall
in truth
be like an open window
let anyone look in

invite everyone
into your house
and make them welcome

there are no enemies
when love is your abiding state
there is only misunderstanding

don’t be so quick
to jump into
being a person
it is not as simple as that
and when you look
from a certain angle
you will see
worlds within worlds
all real
and all fictional

don’t be so quick
to judge
make love your home
and see the world dissolve.

This Constant Calling

It whispers
It shouts
It begs
It lures
It demands

After a while
It’s always there
Always inviting you
Even when you forget
Or lose yourself in experience
When you’ve been triggered
Or forgotten all about awakening
Just for a while

Still it comes back
This constant calling
Calling to openness
Calling to expand or deepen
Calling to know yourself more intimately
To love more
To let go of the past
Of the stories
Of the grievances
And the pain

This constant calling
That seems to come from within
Somewhere in the soul
In the deepest
That knows there is more
There is grace somewhere
In this human experience

And the more this calling comes
The more you want to devote yourself to it
Even though it appears to cause conflict
Even though others around you
Don’t understand
And think you are foolish or deluded
Still you long to turn towards this calling

Ah!
The pull of the truth
The pull of awakening
Once it starts
It never stops
Give yourself to it
Surrender again and again
Face the choiceless choice
Give in to your soul’s calling
Even though you don’t know
Where it will lead
Trust it
Just trust the calling itself.

Death is a Dear Friend No-One Likes

Eventually this body will fall away
Form itself will dissolve
Back to wherever it came from
Nothing left of me
But a fragrance

This I accept with grace
Because it is inevitable

It brings a preciousness to my time here
It reminds me what it important
It shows me the pointlessness
Of unnecessary worry

The inevitability of death
Brings everything into context
That’s why I hold it close to me
I don’t push it away
Death is a dear friend
No one likes
I have befriended them
And made them an ally
And now they are not as scary
And I can live fully
Here and now
Alive and available

Eventually everything will dissolve.

A Cellular Calling to Love

Deep in the consciousness
Of the cellular body
Part of you still exists
You could call it the past
But it’s not really the past
It is here, now, in the cellular body
Intricately bound up with mind
Woven into the nervous system
It speaks to you in triggers and self talk
Asking to be released
And begging to come home
To fullness and love

What could not be processed then
What could not be met then
What was too much then
What was violation then
What was traumatic then

Is here now to be released
And allowed to become free

The good news is that allowing it all
Even though it brings grief and anger
Tears and old fears
The cleansing it brings
Revitalizes the entire system
And brings the whole of you online
As an integrated being.

This is love.

Reclaimed Innocence

When I sit with you
And you show me your self
You reveal the pain and darkness
And all the times your innocence
Was closed down in fear

I see you
I see inside you
I see that which is not broken
I know you want to fix yourself
Because it hurts
But there is nothing to fix
Because you are not broken
Just wounded

I see your vulnerability
And sadness
Your anger and doubt
But there! In all that
I see your beauty
Still there, hiding, waiting

I see your innocence
Not gone, just waiting
Silently in the shadows
For the moment it can return
Surely it will return upon death
But there is a way
To allow innocence back, now

Innocence is the heart
It is like the sun
It can’t break
It can be hidden by dark clouds
That last a lifetime

Open all your doors
The ones you have kept closed
For protection all these years
You no longer need them
You are stronger than you know
And your strength
Is your openness
Your tenderness
And your reclaimed innocence.
