On Our Knees We Grieve

I don’t want to offer you
False hope
Or magical thinking
I am not a ‘lets send prayers’
Kind of guy

I want to invite you
Into the deepest experience
To see clearly
How far we have fallen
Into an existential mire
And how only
A revolution of consciousness
And an evolution of relationship
With ourselves, each other
And all life on earth
Will fundamentally change things

This is not a band aid time
This is us laid bare
We get to see our good
And our bad
Our attention and our avoidance
We have set up fantastic systems
That are in danger
Of consuming our very souls
We neglect the earth beneath our feet
And our own emotional wounds
Little realizing they are connected

I don’t believe in false hope
I have discovered the only way
To transform is to embrace
And to embrace
We must be on our knees
Not in prayer but in humility

Today I sit,
Head hung down,
Tears falling
Heart heavy
Feeling the weight
Of the human experience
No medicine to cure it
No trying to avoid it
Just the pain of this grief
That comes with acceptance

I’m sorry, please forgive me, I love you.

A Kindness Dependent on Nothing

When the kindness
With which we meet the world
Has no cause
Because it doesn’t need any
There will be peace

Kindness is at the root
Of our humanity
It is the soft womb
From which we emerge
The fabric of our being

It is just ignored
With all the noise of self
And the business of the world
Kindness requires
A meeting of vulnerability
A recognition of oneness of all things
And a willingness to be humble

Yet it needs no cause
This kindness is profound
In it’s presence and its intimacy
It heals all that appears broken
And it allows all that was denied

Kindness is our nature
But we don’t know our nature
Until we stumble upon it
Then we know nothing else

It is not a practice
It is a way of life.

Resting in The Heart

Come back, come back
To what is here
This tenderest of places
Where love awaits

Even though we cannot be together
Still we can know each other
When we rest in our hearts

Don’t let it be all mind
You will become exhausted
Mind is rooted in separation
The I, the me, all identity and survival

But our hearts are connected across space
And across time’s illusory appearance
So come back, come back
To what is here
Where love awaits

Don’t forget beauty
Today, do something to court beauty
Say something sweet and tender
Offer something that lights up your lovers eyes
Nothing big, just a soft message
That love is untouchable by separation
Untouchable by fear

There are those who see beauty and love
Even in the midst of great hardship
Let us aspire to be like those
Holders of the light

Come back, come back
To what is here
This tenderest of places
Where love is.

Feed The Inner Fire

The power you have right now
Is on the inside
Yes, keep an eye on the outside world
And take care of what needs attention
But don’t let it consume you
Or eat at your fear based mind
Don’t allow the inner authority
You have worked so hard on
To be eroded

Instead dive deeper
Deeper into that which cannot be touched
Deeper into the vast chamber of your heart
Deeper into your true nature as the eternal
Deeper into inner stillness and peace
Deeper into the vast reservoir of kindness
That lies within your being

It may seem impossible
It may seem irrelevant
And hard to court this
In times of stress

But do it anyway
We only get to feed one fire
Make it the inner

Focusing too much on the outer world creates fear
Which induces inner weakness
Attention on the inner world brings love
Which induces inner authority and power

Your choice.

Kindness in the Midst of Fear

Kindness is the key
It brings us back to what is important
Runaway mind eases into the background
(Before it returns like freight train)
And we are back in the present moment
Softly and tenderly

Kindness is the antidote to fear
It doesn’t try and stop it or answer it
It simply offers a tender hand to it
Kindness says,’Yes I know, and still I love
Even though all this is happening
I stay with openness and love.’

There is no greater power
Not just in a crisis but always
For life is imbued with death and tragedy
And we get to either shrink into self
And meet existence with argument
Or we go beyond and embrace kindness

This kindness starts with us
And emanates out to the world
It heals us and those it touches
It is strength and true power
Manifested even in the face of pain
Even in the face of fear

Believe me, I have tried all alternatives
And realized that only the deepest
And most tender kindness
Works.

LOVE POEM FOR TROUBLED TIMES

In many ways it’s not a surprise
This has been coming for a long time
Trouble has lingered in the air
Haunted us, threatened us

We arrived in turbulent times
Where everything is upended
Nothing is real
And we can’t tell who lies
And who speaks truth

Those with wealth beyond measure
Play power games and manipulate our lives
For agendas we do not understand
Conspiracies run rampant
And feed the insecure and fearful imagination

We lurch from one crisis to another
Unable to slow down the machine
The weather, the economy, the politics
An endless barrage of stuff

And now this

Which has brought us into a clash
Of seemingly divided paradigms
The paradigm of separation
And the paradigm of unity

We are now in both
As physical bodies
We are forced to be separate from each other
But as a species, as a consciousness, as a world
We have never been so together
All experiencing the same thing, albeit in different ways

Is this a time of evolution
Of revelation
Or of isolation?

No one knows
As no one knows the movement of evolution
Until it has happened

Is this our Aquarian moment
Astrology, life, evolution
Bringing us to a bifurcation point
A point of no return
Where we evolve and grow together
Or we slide into destruction

No one knows

Which leaves us here
With this moment
Here, now, heart beating, breath in and out

For those spiritual seekers
Who look beyond the veil
This is your time
This is my time
Spiritual seeking is easy
When life is comfortable and safe
But to stay in presence and openness
When the boat is rocking one way and the other
Challenges even the wisest and deepest

Still, that is the call of the emergent warrior of love and truth
I beseech you, stay in goodness, in awareness and in love
There is no other time to wait for
If you can’t be who you have been becoming, now, today
Then you have missed your time

It’s not what you do that defines you
It’s how you resonate
That resonance is what goes into the world
You can resonate from your home
On the internet, in your messages from your phone
You can resonate reactivity or fear
Or you can bless the world
Resonate inner strength and goodness
Even as you carry some fear
Fear is NOT the enemy
When fear is not embraced
When fear brings a story
When fear is acted upon
That’s the trouble
Fear is just an energy that wants to come home to love

Let it, let it, let it
Become the open space of a vast love
That holds the pain of the world
And the pain of all the lies, and greed, and manipulation
Don’t deny it
Just hold it all in something that is greater
Never doubt the power of love’s vastness

This connectedness in love’s vibration
IS our unity
It IS our togetherness
Separation is easy
It’s what we’re taught and what we believe
Unity is a subtle energy, at least for now,
So we must grow it and feed it
And fan its flame
Love is the only way we can do it

Take heart beloved
We are in dynamic times
Pay attention below the surface
Behind the veil
There is a great window opening
And we are facing it…

In so much love

A Transformational Time

This is the time
That all the spiritual work
All the inquiry
The breathing
The acceptance
The softening
And the opening
Has prepared you for

The effects of undigested,
Unprocessed, unexamined fear
Are highly destructive
Fear can convince us
The imaginary is real
It plays tricks on the brain
It hijacks the nervous system
And destroys our ability
To make informed and considered choices
Make no mistake
Fear wreaks havoc on our health

You have done all this deep work
And it has brought you here, to this
This time in history
This moment of bifurcation
When you are met with two doors
The fear and reactivity door
And the door of discernment and grounded love
It’s the same door you always face
But intensified by fear of survival

Stay present, in your body
In your breath, in your heart
Choose love, choose the love door
No matter what

There is transformational opportunity in this time
Most people might not be able to grasp it
But those who have already peeked through the veil
And seen other ways, other possibilities,
Can use this time to deepen

I am not budging from this openness
I am not going to yield to fear
I am here, staying as presence and truth,
Rooted in the unknown
Even as this reality seems to crumble to dust.
