The Waves of Fear and Staying with Love

This is it
Choice time
Over and over again
Where do you fall
Into fear
Or into love
Into fight or flight
Or into acceptance
As the day wears on
See how it grabs you
That fear
Maybe it starts in the gut
But really it’s the thoughts
Will I survive?

And then you breathe
And come back to this moment
Just this
And you find peace
An inner acceptance
Of this reality
As it is

And then the wave comes
Again and again

This is your test
Your inquiry
A great exacting time
For each of us
On the true path of love
To see how we fall
How we yield to fear
And how we return to love
And which one is more beneficial
To us and to life itself

Don’t give yourself away
This primal fear
This imagined fear
Is the true virus
Don’t catch it, and don’t spread it
Spread only love.

The End of Inner War

My secret is simple
I stopped fighting with the world

I stopped arguing and resisting my experience
I gave up the righteousness
And the indignation
The should’s and shouldnt’s
And I just let it all in
Which meant opening so wide
I became as big as a universe

I stopped measuring everything
And just said ok.

surrounded by eternity

last night as i was preparing for bed
i had pause to stop
and in that stopping
a subtle yet strong
awareness came upon me
i realized just how tiny i am
both in terms of size
and in terms of time
i am a breath
surrounded by eternity
and i felt how
exquisite and terrifying that is
and why humans clutch and grasp at power
desperate for meaning
in the vastness
for myself i felt no agony
nor desperation
i just allowed the waves
of awareness
to wash over me

the truth is we can do nothing
but realize it
and embrace it all
the wonder, the horror
the suffering, the joy
the love and the loss
embrace it all
with a tender openness
and let it pierce
our defended hearts and minds
until we see the same dilemma
in each other

love is the only remedy.

live a beautiful life

with whatever time you have left here
be beautiful
be beautiful for no reason
or every reason
and even if you have very little
be beautiful with it
love doesn’t need much
it is not greedy
or self centered
love is not an arrogant state
and those who bomb others
and wage war
or cling desperate to power
know nothing of love
or beauty
if you must give your allegiance to something
give it to the tenderness of love
live a beautiful life
be more open
share yourself freely
adore others as though they were yourself
cast off the shackles of fear
and be as free as you can
let the war mongers fight
but don’t let them steal your heart.

Your True Power

If you can see through your own projection
And righteous judgement
And instead
See from an open heart
And an innocent mind
You will be doing yourself
And the world
A great service
The world doesn’t need your opinion
It needs your love
Your innocence
And your beauty
Because therein
Lies your true power.

Mirage, Mirror and Maze

Oh world!
Oh body!
Oh mind!
Oh everything that appears
In our experience
Why do you taunt us so?
Why do tease us with your false hopes?
You offer nothing real
And nothing that lasts
You are a mirage
A mirror
A maze

And like all things illusory
Only when we look THROUGH you, not at you,
Do we begin to really see the truth

What madness is this world
Where what we see is false
And what we cannot see is real?

We live inside a dream
And only waking up
As we do from a heavy slumber
Can bring any peace

Oh world, body and mind
I can see your tricks and your stories
And although many imagine you to be real
I know you shimmer
In the light
And deceive the naive onlooker
I am wise to your ways
And your tricksters hustle
I have awoken from my dream
And see you for what you are
And love you anyway.

there is a sadness that shines

there is a sadness
that opens the door
to peaceful acceptance
of the wheel of life

and there is a grief which,
when opened to,
may bring
the most profound love

but both sadness and grief
are shunned and demeaned
by those who desperately
flap around on the surface
and so they may never know
peace or love

i turned my back
on all that
and dived down
into the darkness
and there, amongst the tears and regret,
the pain and the deep wounds,
lay the most exquisite jewels

and now i wear those jewels
every moment of every day
with a humble pride
that says
‘i am not afraid of the darkness or the shadows.’
