Nothing But Love

I fought with love, I rejected it, I was scared of it, I denied it, I was angry with it, I couldn’t even say the word.
I didn’t let love in to the depth of my being, I didn’t let its transformational fire burn up everything that was not love.

And then I fell into the deepest love I have ever known.
This love made me mad. It turned me into a poet. It destroyed everything that was no longer needed.

And this love took me to the darkest areas of my self and cast a light on them. It demanded all of me.
It said, ‘Burn in the fire, let love take everything and give up yourself.’
I walked willingly into the fire.

And then I embraced love, I welcomed it, I became it, and I didn’t stop talking about it.
It started as personal love, and then it just became love of everything.

I was a guy who couldn’t even say the word love. Now I speak of nothing else.

coyote wisdom of the trickster

Coyote on the Trail Today

the poetry of the divine fool
his teaching says
‘do not get carried away
with yourself,
the truth is
you know nothing,
don’t get carried away
pretending you have
the keys to the palace of wisdom,
the greatest wisdom
is in knowing
that you know nothing

dance in the irony,
in the mystery,
dance in the madness
but remember
you are a fool
a clown
and a joker

and therein
lies your freedom.

Coyote on the Trail

We used to be wild once

We used to be wild
Once
But slowly everything
Was tamed
We traded our wildness
For a kind of social cohesion
But it killed our
Beauty
And we lost our soul
And now
We have forgotten
We used to be wild
So we walk the malls
And stare at the screens
And buy the stuff
But it doesn’t fill
The void
We left behind

The domestic human
Is a sorry creature
Unhappy and frustrated
Longing for freedom
Held captive by culture
Oh! We gave up what we most needed
And I don’t know if we will survive.

We used to be wild
Once.

My WILD Friends

once we were wild

somewhere deep in our dna
is the memory
of how we used to be

i call that our wildness

we became tamed and docile
so we could all live together

i call that our servitude

but no-one ever quite forgets
their wildness
it may drive their desire for beauty
or creativity or freedom

because we are still carrying
our ancestors in our blood and bones
even as we sit
in our suits and ties
and discuss important matters

and don’t imagine that you have to
be crazy or run amok
to remember your wild nature
it is much more subtle than that

that wildness is in your heart and soul
all you have to do is touch it
and taste it
because it is not really dead
until you are.
