The Sun came today and opened my heart
Showed me the light, gave me a start
I opened the shades, a shot in the dark
There’s a crack in the wall, that’s where it starts
Now I know my way, now I see the way
And the heart of everything is here
The heart of everything you hold so dear
Is always here
The Moon came tonight and showed me inside
Pointed to love, and the things that I hide
I got on my knees and cried while I prayed
I had to admit that I was afraid
Now I know my way, now I see the way
And the heart of everything is here
The heart of everything you hold so dear
Is always here.
(These words are from a song I wrote recently for one of my wife’s retreats. I sang it once in Santa Sabina in San Rafael, California. Like all my poems and songs, I simply point towards tenderness and openness, the two virtues as I see them. These are the qualities of surrender, which is the path of love. There is no other path back to the garden of innocence than the path of conscious surrender. But it is the hardest path, and one fraught with (self) deception and arrogance.)
Thank you.
