The Fire of Love

I walked away from my life
And into the fire of love
Following only the flame
No concern for self or future
Caught by an impulse
Led by a fragrance
Into the complete unknown

I gave myself to that fire
Oh! did it burn and burn
When you say yes to love
Everything that is not love
Turns up to the party for burning

Now there is nothing left of me
But this poetry
A phoenix arose from the ashes
This one
The same shape and style
As the old one
But transformed and different

I cannot explain the mystery
Of transformation
Or what love can do
When you give yourself to it

My life has been this journey
From innocence to fall
Endless years in the wilderness
And then the walking through fire
To come home to love
I am at a loss how to explain
Words fall short
And fail
We will have to leave it there.
